MOVE THAT BUS!! See our building reveal of the before and after photographs with history of the Moore Farmhouse No.1 and Moore Chapel CME Church School No.2 buildings we are preserving on our farm.

Moore Farmhouse number one. According to elder Arvid Grigsby, the Moore Farmhouse, built on the south end of the farm in the 1800s, was one of the homes of the family members of Grandpa John and Grandma Harriet Moore, founders of the Moore farm.                                                                                                                              

The Moore Family timber business provided material for a two-room house measuring 9 by 14 feet, made of hand sawed wood planks and a tin roof sitting on foundation stones. A well is nearby. Birdie Moore was the last known relative to live in the house. The house was later used as a corn crib.

Moore Chapel CME Church School number two, built in the early 1900s on land donated by the John Lewis Moore family was the second church and school constructed to educate the children in the Flatwoods community during segregation. Some of the first teachers included Ramsey Lee, Alfred, and Cora who were siblings of John Lewis Moore.

This one room church school measures 24 by 32 feet, made of concrete masonry unit block, a wood cathedral ceiling roof, 6 metal frame windows, a wood floor and two wood doors. Art panels were installed as protective covers for window openings.
