We appreciate all for attending and participating in the Annual Homecoming Ancestor Day on the grounds of the Moore Chapel Cemetery on October 5, 2024.

We honored about 184 ancestors with storytelling, pouring libation, drumming, calling their names, reading historical panels, a military salute, releasing balloons, fellowship, and great soul food. Their presence was felt by the crowd reaching upwards of 100. Attendees said they were deeply moved by the beautiful tributes.

Robin extended a welcome. Mike with Benton County Genealogical Society shared greetings. Katie, a Richard Grubb Associate presented the cemetery survey. Cheryl shared the site history, Baba Musa offered music. Stacia and Howard read the names of our ancestors and veterans. Quanita coordinated the food. Dwayne blessed the food. Daniel oversaw the pavilion installation. Deauntra installed tent number two. Ebony prepared the balloons. Brian helped with set-up and break down.

Libation was poured by Renee to honor all ancestors. A military tribute was offered to the 18 ancestors who served in branches of service (Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines) as far back as World War II, Korean War, and more. The flag was presented to Thomas, a Navy and Army veteran and oldest living elder.

We will continue this annual tradition and preserve historic landmarks including cemetery and buildings.
