Thanks to Humanities TN, we partnered with numerous collaborators to capture the stories of TN Black Farm and Garden Owners.
In 2024 we prepared to start traveling across the state of Tennessee to help the Moore Flatwoods Museum collaborate with numerous farmers, scholars, artists, builders, and curators to capture the stories of TN Black Farm and Garden Owners through conversation, audio, art, architecture, video, music, timelines, and photography.
Step into a living chapter of American history at the "Moore Land: Testimonies of Black-owned Farms and Gardens in Tennessee" exhibit showcasing the accomplishments and wisdom of Black and Indigenous farmers from 1810 to the present day who contribute to the development of agriculture in Tennessee and the nation. Experience this permanent exhibit and tour on the 200-acre African American owned Moore Family Century Farm established 1870 in rural West Tennessee. Walk or drive this 150+ year old heritage trail featuring outdoor interpretive panels, historic buildings, plants, trees, and landmarks to inform, inspire, and instruct the next generation of Family, Black, and Indigenous landowners as well as the consumers of agricultural products and produce. We will continue to collect and showcase our stories along a permanent indoor and outdoor exhibition trail at the Moore Farm.Â
Deepest gratitude to TN Black Farmers Coalition, National Alliance of Pan African Seminarians-Ms. Tranae Chatman and Rev.
